COVID 19 AND THE THEATRE INDUSTRY...

Crash Bang Wallop (CBW) is a non-profit Youth Theatre and Performing Arts Academy based in Stokesley in North Yorkshire. Dan Brookes (The Founder) had just been offered a place at The Guildford School of Acting (GSA) to train as an actor back in 2005. At the same time CBW's first show "Oliver" took place and was a resounding success, and given the enjoyment and enthusiasm of the children in particular, CBW had to continue...

The CBW Academy was started in 2009 to support the work of the Youth Theatre. The Academy is a children's theatre school with a difference, keeping costs down, helping to ensure that everyone who wants to take part can do so, open to children between the ages of 5 and 20, with no auditions.

Accessibility and affordability are two key elements in the CBW ethos, and the aim is to provide high quality teaching in drama, singing and dance, with regular opportunities to perform in both large scale shows and small performances.

Today CBW has over 60 members, and is always encouraging new people to get involved in its next production. The experience and skills gained by children at CBW are invaluable in later life, giving children increased confidence and creativity, the ability to express themselves through words and movement and a sense of worth and achievement, whilst all the time having lots of fun!!

But CBW along with many other theatre groups are struggling with funds due to COVID, only months away now from potentially being no longer commercially viable.
