The Peugeot 304, built between 1969 and 1980 filled a gap identified by Peugeot in the midsize car market in France, Italy and the rest of Western Europe. It had a distinct upmarket feel, and its handsome lines were well suited to postwar Europe's newly affluent middle classes who desired roomy, advanced and stylish cars to park in their driveways.

This one is a 1972 Cabriolet in Mandarin Orange. Less than 19,000 of these 2 - door cabriolet versions were built with just 2 seats, and its the only version of the 304 that exists in any significant numbers in the UK today, as most saloons imported were destroyed by corrosion.

Peugeot's competition on home turf came from Renault and Simca, with Citroen noticeably absent from the sector at the launch. The 304 was a success, noted for several advanced features under its Pininfarina styled exterior,

Pininfarina SpA was an Italian car design house and coach builder, headquartered in Cambiano, Turin, founded by Battista Farina. It was acquired by Mahindra Group in December 2015 for c168 million euros.

There is however a sister company Automobili Pininfarina GmbH, with its roots in Pininfarina SpA. It is now a luxury electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, headquartered in Munich.

It's first car, the Battista Hypercar, is named after the founder of Pininfarina SpA, Battista Farina, and was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2019.

Just yesterday (2nd February 2021) The company reported development of the car is now accelerating, with testing of the "Battista Hyper GT Prototype" taking place at the Nardo Technical Centre in Italy. Testing the car was none other than "Quick Nick", Nick Heidfeld, ex Formula 1 and Formal E racer.
