Porsche’s first production automobile. No wonder they sold 76,000 after initial projections of 500 sales. What a beautiful car, regarded by many as one of the finest sports cars ever made. 50% of them were imported to the US and nearly half of those ended up in California.

Because less than half of those made remain today their investment rating is very high. I spotted a 1946 1500 GS Carrera that sold for $1,485,000 back in 2013.

I decided to paint this one that I spotted on Instagram, at Oppède Le Vieux in Provence, a magnificent little hill-top village that dates back to the 12th century with its remains of a medieval castle and formidable romanesque church perched at the top.

It was parked outside Le Petit Café at 12 rue Sainte Cécile, Oppède Le Vieux, www.lepetitcafe.fr/ a charming, unassuming and authentic bistro and wine bar with three rooms, that get great reviews on Trip Adviser and Kayak.

Its now on my list of must visit places in the south of France.

I wondered who might own such a beautiful car, perhaps Sir Ridley Scott, I believe when he’s not residing in London or Los Angeles he spends his time in Oppède Le Vieux.
